Why logic bullying doesn't work
Throwing facts at someone who's talking about feelings. You're on two different playing fields.
It is not unreasonable to note (if the deconstructionists would leave it at that) that science can be biased by the interests of power, and to warn against that—or to point out that evidence is too often what powerful people, including scientists, decide it is. After all, scientists are people too, and people like power, just like lobsters like power—just like deconstructionists like to be known for their ideas, and strive rightly to sit atop their academic hierarchies
This is why logic bullying doesn’t work. You take facts, science and use it as power. Use it as a way to hurt or stand above others instead of actually trying to help them. You’re not meeting them where they are, you prefer to stand on your own make believe island of facts.
“So you’re not getting married ?”
“No, you know 90% of people who marry now end up divorce”
“That’s not the point, don’t you love this girl ? Don’t you want to spend the rest of your lives together ?”
“But 60% of weddings cost more than 30K, we don’t have that money”
You’re on two different playing fields here, one ie emotional and about honor to the relationship and the other is just using facts.
