Why Small Social Norms are bad for us

Our society faces the increasing call to deconstruct its stabilizing traditions to include smaller and smaller numbers of people who do not or will not fit into the categories upon which even our perceptions are based. This is not a good thing. Each person’s private trouble cannot be solved by a social revolution, because revolutions are destabilizing and dangerous. We have learned to live together and organize our complex societies slowly and incrementally, over vast stretches of time, and we do not understand with sufficient exactitude why what we are doing works

This makes sense to me, because it goes back to arrogance. These things are huge complex stuff, not just society but anything you have. Culture, a large complex codebase.

When people want to carve out their own small sector because they think they are unique and are entitled to have their own clique whithout fully understanding the picture, that’s dangerous because it breaks us up into smaller and smaller groups. That sense of unity is no more and now there is just a bunch of in fighting.
