Raise the stakes and suspense with a hourglass

Slowing down at the climax of a story to stretch out the anticipation.

An hourglass is about drawing out the time during the climax of a story. The idea is to rapidly increase anticipation of the audience. When we know what the audience has been waiting for, we slow down and drive into the details of our story to heighten the anticipation.
