Suspense is strategically hiding information

Hold things back. Say shiny metal object instead of spoon and let the audience fill the gap.

Similar to Raise the stakes and suspense with a hourglass, building suspense is about strategically revealing / hiding information in a story. It can be very small things like abstracting away the objects in a story. Using “shiny metal object” instead of spoon or saying “there are three types of benefits”.

The idea is to prime your audience’s brain for something and then they will find a need to fill that space with something.
